Frequently Asked Questions
How can a Registered Dietitian help me?
As a virtual non-diet registered dietitian nutritionist, I will help you make positive health changes without restriction or focus on your weight or appearance. We will discuss your health history, relationship with food and your body, and any other concerns that you may have. We will then work together to create goals for you to work on between our sessions that fit into your lifestyle and take into account your lived experiences. My ultimate goal is for you to trust your body and remove yourself from diet culture for good.
What does being non-diet or HAES-aligned mean?
HAES® stands for Health At Every Size. A term meaning, anyone at any size or point in their life can participate in health promoting behaviors. The focus is on creating a sustainable and balanced lifestyle, not on restricting certain food groups, counting calories, or intentional weight loss. Being a non-diet dietitian reflects this as well, meaning I do not promote dieting or weight loss in my practice and will never judge you for your choices or behaviors. Instead, we focus on creating mindset changes, practicing gentle nutrition, and mindful movement. To learn more about HAES®, visit the Associated for Size Diversity and Health website.
Will working with you help me lose weight?
With a non-diet and Heath At Every Size approach I do not focus on weight loss. I will absolutely hold space for concerns about weight and what weight loss means to you at any point in your journey. Our main focus will be to build healthy and sustainable habits that allow you to eat without restriction or binging and enjoy your life again! Your body weight may fluctuate up or down related to the changes you make, but every person is different.
Can I work with you if I have an underlying condition like diabetes or heart disease?
It depends. I see clients from all different backgrounds with all different conditions who are looking to make lifestyle changes and remove themselves from diet culture. However, if I think you would benefit from seeing a dietitian who specializes in your condition - I will recommend someone who may be a better fit for you. No one dietitian is a perfect fit for everyone. This is where a discovery call comes in handy so we can make sure we are a good match!
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance at this time, but I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Reimbursement is dependent on your insurance, and not guaranteed. You are responsible for the full payment at the time of your first appointment or through monthly payment plans. I do accept FSA/HSA payments as well.
How do I start working with you?
The first step is to set up a discovery call! During this 15-20 minute call I will answer any questions you have and we can see if we are a good fit for each other. If we decide to work together after the call, I will send you more information on setting up appointments and making payments via e-mail. You can get a more in depth look at my offerings on my services page.
